Lidingö - the Healthy Island
The island of Lidingö is situated where the archipelago of Stockholm, a unique maritime landscape of more than 30,000 islands, begins. Here we attach great importance to health issues, open-air recreation and access to green spaces. With a population of 43,000, the island is classed as a medium-sized town and is a popular place to live. Your Health - Your IslandThe Lidingö City Council decided in 2005 that health is the core in our brand 'Your Health - Your Island'. The Lidingö brand is built on the core values and strengths in our municipality and the definition of health is not only the absence of illness but a sense of wellbeing. Wellbeing is central. The Lidingö brand has been created together with the community and is a symbol for all people, business and organisations to use. We want to highlight Lidingö as a place to live, work and visit. Health StrategyA Health Strategy was adopted in 2006 and since then sets the focus for the city´s work with health and wellbeing in all the municipal departments. Health has three dimensions; physical health (to have a body that functions), mental health (to feel well) and social health (to have good relations). The strategy cater for both young people and the elderly population with the focus both on our employees, but also on a more active and healthy population in general. Our efforts were recognized in December 2005 with the Healthy City Award and Lidingö now belongs to the World Health Organization network via Stockholm County Council.
